[SOLVED] Who's that Bonsai?

I thought for my maiden post I'd ask for an identification of this tree species. I'm a novice at Bonsai so when I saw this tree (it was cheap, mind you) I saw potential to practice. At first I assumed it was just some hideously unkempt Lavender Star/Grewia, but upon closer inspection and comparison to a stock one I have the leaves are a lot more silkier, thin and lighter in colour. There is slight variation to the leaf shape, some being ovate, others having a more pronounced tip. The leaf structure is bi-pinnate (I think). There are no buds on it at all.

Attached are some pictures of it which I tried to make as clear as possible.

The guy at the nursery (not a specialised bonsai nursery) was unsure and well, I didn't really mind as the price was cheap and I really wanted something to get my hands dirty, so to say.

Any help is much appreciated!

It looks like an ash - Fraxinus sp.

I agree with shibui - they make great bonsai material. Have a look at the excellent eworkshops being conducted by Grant atm

Thanks Shibui for your astute eye and Bougy fan for the suggestion. I'll definitely have a look at the eworkshop. I had a quick look around and read a bit about the species, they surely have a lot of potential so I'm looking forward to getting some practice in on a good specimen.
