Interested in this tree. The leaves are about 4.5 cm to 5 cm long & there is an interesting, rough bark.

I would really like to find out this one as the lawn of the house next door is littered with seedlings, including this self-seeded group setting that I'm looking at lifting & transplanting 'as is'.

There are also several other groups with 2 or 3 seedlings. I would really like to grab these before the next lawn mowing wipes them out!
Cheers

Camphor Laurel I think. If so those seedlings will actually be suckers off the roots and will die if you collect them. They will only seed directly under the tree in the acidic mix that the leaf litter makes. They make a wonderful bonsai but are slow growing to get to the plated bark stage which is the best feature of them.

It's a pity. After talking to the lady who owns the place I think you are right about them being suckers. Apparently they only popped up about 4 or 5 weeks ago and are already over 150 mm tall. And they're only 4 or 5 meters from the parent tree growing on the other side of the fence.
Looks like I'll have to kill them off. After all, Camphor Laurel is considered a weed......
Cheers

Yes they are a declared weed but I have about 6 growing that I collected as seedlings. I love the bark on them but it takes a long time to mature. If you are young give them a go
