Benji grafting project.

Post by Paulneill »

Hi all .

I found this benji discarded for the rubbish collectors .
I repotted it and later ground layered it below the soil.
It has a nice base but then its prity much just a bean pole and not much going for it .
After seeing a video of a guy using an interesting grafting method (for figs) were the sion is perpaired and grown with long lignified roots .
Alowing the sion to be positioned on the host and the roots dressed down the host trunk and into the soil.
So basicly I'm going to Graft the fucture top half onto this tree using a layer and attach it into position using stainless screws
And also graft 2 or 3 lower branches . I will remove the layers soon and work on getting the roots to grow long and lignified .
And when they are ready I can go ahead and screw my grafts into position. Then when the grafts fused i will chop the trunk and work on covering the wound with roots using another small layer.

It should be an intresing project and a good learning process for me .
Pictures of the tree still to come . And I will take pictures of the process in the fucture and keep you all updated.

Hi Paul
How are the layers coming along?
I have one in my backyard very similar, but with only 3 layers on it :-)
