[WANTED] Where do you buy plants from?
Sorry if i have posted in the wrong thread. Being new, i am just learning my way around. Today i am headed to Bonsai Environment at Riverstone. It's 15 minutes away from home. I wish i could extend the trip to Ray Nesci and Pedro but with an uninterested partner and a 5 year old who won't leave me alone on my day off, it not really possible.
I am interested in the following plants:
Ficus rubiginosa - Port Jackson Fig
Ficus macrophylla - Moreton Bay Fig
Ficus microcarpa var. hillii - Hills Weeping fig
Ficus benjamina - weeping fig
Ulmus parvifolia - chinese elm
Acer buergerianum - Trident maple
Liquidambar styraciflua - Liquidambar
Juniperus chinensis - (Chinese Juniper
Brazilian Rain tree
Acer palmatum - Japanese maple
Managed to get 2 japanese maple seedlings from a seller on gumtree (still to arrive from ACT) but would like a few more in my range to work with. Being a newby i'd like something young to start with and practice on to calm the hole burning in my brain.
Apart from local nurseries, where else do people buy their plants from?
PS: any members have any surpluses, happy to purchase of them. Couldn't get better than buying from the pros.

Hi bonborn,
I noticed you have already mentioned Ray Nesci. I think Ray would have one of the best variety of trees. He has quite a large stock of trees as well.
Regards Ray

you have to go to Padre Pio and talk to Nic!!!! It is a must for any bonsai'er. Find an excuse and get there! Hugest range of pre-bonsai

I must say, the first time i walked into pedro i had to pick my mouth up off the floor, wow are there some trees there! We are very lucky in Sydney to have a number of good bonsai suppliers - a big thank you to all of them

Bonsai south also has a great range of stock-it's 5 minutes from the beach so you could take the wife and kid and "accidentally" drive past it!!!

Shibui bonsai can post trees to most Eastern states. Currently plenty of Juniper chinensis in a range of sizes and some Ficus macrophylla as well as most of the species you have already picked up.

I'd also like to give a plug for Ray's, that place is bloody awesome! A massive variety there, and all very reasonably priced. Lots of nice starter stock too
Was torture for me when I visited earlier this year, so hard not to buy anything/everything
And Padre Pio is also not far from there (although I didnt' get to visit Padre's when I was over there unfortunately).
Those two are the closest to Bonsai Enviroment, the rest are a bit of a trek away
You can always check out your local nurseries, sometimes they can have some decent stock if you look hard enough

Re: [WANTED] Where do you buy plants from?
Angus,
I can get a 30 cm pot with a 30 cm tall tree to Camden for around $35. Postage is very dependant on LOCATION ( Broken Hill costs way more than Sydney area) and SIZE of the box I can get it into. The smaller the plant the less it costs to send. That's why I quote post and pack on each individual order - you only pay the cost of your order instead of subsidising other buyers transport costs.Hi shibui what are some typical postage costs to nsw-I know the question is depends on the stock-something in the catalogues for example?
