Japanese flowering quince ''Chojubai''
This was started about 12 years ago by planting several cuttings in a pot and letting them go.

Keen on some more pics of your Chojubai please. Any tips for growing quince as bonsai? I was given one as a gift from another member and i havent really worked on it in fear of losing it. Thanks.

Just wondering how did you source Chojubai? I'm presuming these plants are the dwarf Chaenomeles cultivars used in bonsai. It's difficult enough finding nurseries selling the standard Chaenomeles since it is not a fashionable plant anymore. As for Chojubai, is it commercially available?

Hi Woody, I started with a piece of a plant from Japan and I've been propagating it lately and builing up stocks. They are slow and it will be a year or 2 before they are 150mm pot size. I don't think this variety is ''commercially'' available here.
Townsville will be too warm for it anyway. It's funny that people up north want to grow the cool stuff and people down here like me want to grow the tropical stuff. When will we learn

It's human nature. We always want what we can't have.
For example, I'm salivating over flowering cherries and maples. Yet figs don't generally get my interest.
And don't get me started about Kate Winslett...

That reminds me, I should change my location to Gold Coast.
