A pigeon breasted J. procumbens that I like

Why do I like it you ask.....?

Because its my first tree in a pot that I have styled from scratch.

I thought I would put it up as I need some advice on the direction for it. It has many faults, not the least being its pigeon breast near the apex. Its about ready for its second styling. Most of he Jin's will go except for maybe the one that forks. What do you think about adding shari?

Let me have it guys.

Perhaps there is a better front Ces?

Personally I don't see much of an issue with the "breast".
Im not convinced about the top jin. (Nice colour though).

Rest just looks like it needs a thin and wire to me.
As I said a slightly new front after the thin and wire might alleviate your "breast" issues.

Nice tree though mate.

Hey Boics,

You could be right about the front. I'll post some more angles for you to look at, if you have time. The tenjin needs some work but I'd like to keep it for now.

What would be your process for thinning out this species? I struggle a bit when it comes to the conifers

Thanks for the help.

Ces.

Ces,

I love this tree.

As has been suggested, the top jinn is a little convoluted and removing the small bar branch jins at the base will help. I would go even further myself and remove the section heading towards the back of the tree, which would leave the jinn going off to the right. I think this will give better movement.

I also think that the thin jins towards the lower end of the tree are a bit whispy and could be shortened.

As for the foliage mate you know what your doing so keep on doing it. Just needs refining.

Cheers,
-Mo

Ces,
In terms of shari and thinning foliage, my advice is to step back and think about the overall composition. The foliage and trunk currently look young and healthy but the abundance of jin suggests a harsh life of extremes.
It is a good start with lots of potential. Best of luck.

Thanks for the input guys. I appreciate all your comments.

I'll do some refinement work on the jins and foliage over the weekend and repost when its done. It'll be nice to see what everyone thinks then.

Cheers guys,

Ces.

Hi guys,

A quick update on this one. I think this is the 3rd time this tree has been completely wired. Pretty happy with how its looking at the moment. I might consider removing some branches in the future to create a lighter, more rugged image.

There are quite a few branchlets on there that I'd like to wire but they're a bit young yet. looking at the pictures I see a couple of pads that I'd like to move around but all in all I'm pleased. A couple of more growing seasons and a new pot and it should be looking pretty good.

Let me know what you think about it guys.

Cheers,

Ces.

Hi Ces,
From the first photo to the last photo is a massive improvement. I like the openness that there is now. Looking good mate.
