*sigh* I left my bonsais in the care of the pet sitter for a week over Christmas. When I came back quite a few were crispy. I've lost a few of my poorer crepe cuttings, my elm air layer and now it looks like my liquidambar (the one with the trunk bend). The other crepes, bougies and the citrus seem to have come back from death and some seemed to be unaffected.

My double trunk swampie is struggling. The small trunk seems ok but the big one is getting worse. Has anyone dried one out and had it live before? My other swampie which was right next to the double trunk one is fine.

Should be OK it doesn't look that bad. Have you been giving it lots of seasol ? You can sit it in a saucer of water as well - they love it.

I have bought swampies in the same state have let them sit in a tray of water and watered heavily and they all recovered .. Good luck

Oh great, thanks! Hope it pulls through, I quite like it and it's my only double trunk. It is sitting in a water tray (just took it out for the photo). I've seasoled, but only twice, all my plants get it once per week.

Pretty sure the larger trunk is dead. I have bought a new one to replace the dead trunk but it will have to wait til spring and be styled as a twin trunk in its own pot.

I had a swampy that "died". I left it in a bucket of water and after about 3 months it grew a couple of new shoots. I would leave it sitting in water and just wait till spring/summer.

Did it shoot off the roots or the trunk?

Mate just scratch the leader of the larger trunk with your finger nail and if there is green cambium layer under the bark then the trunk is not dead. Just keep the water up to in and it will probably bounce back.

It's dead. I scratch tested last week. Even down lower on the tree.

Did it shoot off the roots or the trunk?
It shot back from the trunk, from two or three spots, from about one third from the bottom and higher. Mine trunk failed the "nail test" so I would still give it until at least the end of spring to see if it shoots. If it hasn't then plant the other tree you bought.

Yeah maybe I'll be lucky.
