This is the first time I have seen this tree in flower the flowers will be removed branches cut back and then feed feed feed the next few days

Oh my! That is beautiful. I am anxiously awaiting mine to flower for first time in the ground! If only I knew you could successfully bonsai I would not have planted it. What did you feed it to flower, and what Will you feed it once you remove flowers?

Very interesting indeed. I've only ever heard that because we pinch so often, they are unlikely to flower - the tree doesn't look unbalanced, you've done very well indeed. When do you prune and pinch, when do you leave it, when do you fertilise, and when do you repot? And how big is it? It seems I may have to re-write that section of the Natives as Bonsai project!

Never a Ficifolia bonsai in flower before, so thankyou for sharing John

I've got a few in training pots, one day hopefully they'll look as good as this. Ficifolia is one that really has my interest, was the first scientific name I learnt for a plant (back in the days when it was a euc )

Hi Gavin This tree is 1mt high and is very old, which could contribute to it flowering ?? as it is not grafted When I got the tree it was in very poor condition and pot bound it was repotted this year in early Spring the only thing I added to the mix was a cup of Horticultual charcoal I pruned it in early winter and left it go to early Spring then pinched back and fed every 10 days with Seasol /Charlie carp /Power Feed then just let it go.

Are you sure that it is a ficifolia I only ask because I had one a few years ago and the leaves on it were much wider.
