Hi

New to the forum, had trees for many years but still class myself as a novice-intermediate.

I transferred a bougainvillea vine that was growing over a 6ft fence to a pot that i'm very happy now and this transformation i did over a few years. I was told that with regularly keeping the follage back (as we do with Bonsai) that the thorns wouldn't grow however mine still are. Any idea's or tips on how i can stop this?

The exact species i'm not sure of, the flowers are pink.

thanks for any help

Daniel

Hi daniel

I have many bougys and sone throw more thorns than others. You just have to cut the thorns off as they grow. Once you have removed them from those branches they wont grow back . But you will need to repeat process on new branches. Only when they start to bloom that a brach replaces a thorn. Good luck
