What juniper is this?

G'day all,
A neighbour of a friend of mine has the following ?Juniper? in his garden. Chances are it will survive where I live so if it's a suitable specimen then I will attempt to get a cutting and grow it.
Not sure if it's obvious, but the leaves (if that's what they are called) all seem to be FLAT - unlike the other Juni's I see on this forum.

I looked these up and got some pictures back of them as Bonsais … and got excited, but it doesn't quite fit the leave structure …

I think you got it, Grant, but there are no Bonsai examples that I could see … so being right might mean
no Bonsai?? Does either one of you have any experience with these as Bonsais?

It is possible to create bonsai from thuja, but they're not the best subjects. Personally I don't think I would bother with a cutting as their best feature is deadwood, like juniper. So starting a small, difficult tree without much character wouldn't be high on my list. Now if they'll let you dig the whole tree, you might be in business.
