Evening forumers, hoping to get a positive ID on this. I'm pretty sure it's a native hibiscus but haven't been able to positively say yes or no. If you can help I'd very much appreciate it:

If there better or other pics required please let me know.

Howdy,
Hibiscus would be my pick.
Too soft in the wood for bonsai.
There are much better trees about.
Happy bonsai,
Bruce.

Definitely Hibiscus, the variety I have no idea but i have 1 in the garden

As for Bonsai, i disagree with Bruce. I love them and think they can be stunning. Check out some of them in the asian displays and shows on the web.
Soft wood and bark, easy to wire, Age quickly, Ramify quite well. I defoliate about 5 times a summer as the leaves do not reduce much.
If showing, Defoliate about 2 -4 weeks before so that you have new shoots only for display.

Mine will never flower as they keep getting cut off, but if you wish to have flowers, then look at a larger tree. Mine in the ground and benches tend to flower year round which is nice :-)

I think that one might be a foreigner. Have a look at Hibiscus syriacus to see if yours looks similar. I have not seen the double flowered variety though.

Thanks for the replys.
Ken is that your hibiscus? That's a cracking little tree!
Shibui I had thought of Syriacus but most seem to have a promenant stamen? Lost? Might try the hibiscus society if I can find their email...
