Mate has got 3 of these in his front garden. I can do with them what I like, but what are they and are they any good for Bonsai?

Layering?

Morning Glory perhaps?

I'm not familiar with this species at all but a search online and within Ausbonsai should help.

Blue Potato Bush aka Royal Robe aka Solanum rantonnetii.
Never seen one before but that is what I deduced from google image search.

g'day Raymond.
I've got a convolvulus sabatius blue and the flowers shape really resembles your pic. But the leaves look way to short on mine. Yours are elongated and I'd say Boics is spot on with 'Solanum rantonnetii'. And the flower on yours looks more purple.
Amazing how the two flowers are so similar in design. Nature at its best!!
The Ipomea is known as a morning glory too. More of a trumpet shaped flower though.
Not sure of its bonsai ability. Maybe the leaves are too big. Give it a go I say. Ya never know.

+1
I orginally thought it was morning glory too, but the leaf looked wrong. The Potato bush is spot on
