In 2003, a group of bonsai-ists interested in Australian plants as bonsai held the first National Exhibition of Australian Plants as Bonsai at the Australian National Botanic Gardens in Canberra. Since then (almost) annual Exhibitions have showcased the fabulous bonsai able to be created using Australian plants.

The 10th National Exhibition being held on the weekend of 15-16 March 2014 at the Australian National Botanic Gardens, Canberra will showcase styling of bonsai using Australian plants as the various species are represented in nature.

* The Exhibition will be open from 9.30 am till 4.30 pm on both days in the Crosbie Morrison Building (follow the signs from the Visitor Centre Rainforest Bridge, and/or café).

* The Exhibition will include over 30 bonsai from around Australia, including trees physically present and photographs where distance prevents the trees being brought
to Canberra.

* There will be also demonstrations held at 2.00 pm each day to provide information on growing and styling Australian plants as bonsai.

Admission is
Adults $4.00
Concession $2.00
Children under 12 Free

Please visit the Exhibition and see for yourself these wonderful bonsai.

The Exhibition is being held in conjunction with the 3rd Symposium on Australian Plants as Bonsai (see separate thread for details)

:bump:

Even if you aren't coming to the Symposium, come to the Exhibition to see what people are doing with Australian plants!

It's shaping up to be a great display of what is possible, with over 30 trees from the NSW north coast, Sydney and Canberra on display. :tu:

The ANBG is a great venue, and when you've seen the Exhibition, you can go for a walk through the gardens and see the inspiration for these bonsai.

Hope to see you there. :D

Hi Jennifer,
just had a look at the map and I'm not sure where the Drawing Room, University House is. It's listed in your Program sheet.

Slipped up (or is that down?) to Canberra today for a look at the exhibition. Some really good trees on display, however like many exhibitions the lighting makes it difficult to fully experience the quality, and even more difficult to take a quality photo.
Anyway, following are a few photos from today. Hopefully in a day or two I will have a more comprehensive story on my blog.
Hope you enjoy!!!

Good photos for difficult conditions. Thanks watto. Unfortunately you can't catch just how spectacular some of these trees are. The intricacy and details are marvelous. A wonderful credit to some awesome artists showcasing just how good Australian trees can make world class bonsai  :hooray: :worship:

Hi guys

Great to see your photos... And thanks to the exhibitors who made the show so great!

We're hoping that the CBS website will be back up soon ( you may have noticed it's been down for a while). When it is we'll put up the full catalogue and 'official' photos. Will post when it's up.

Cheers

Jennifer

Hi Watto,

I read your blog and looked at the photos you posted. Hope you enjoyed the show.

I noticed with the photo of my Banksia you had cut off the tip of the lowest right hand branch. Even though I had clearly written in the catalogue that this branch was going to be allowed to grow longer; the volunteers had been telling the public that this was a sacrifice branch. It isn't! I think you fell for this line as well.

I am going to grow a very Chinese looking Australian bonsai over the next few years with a very extended, elongated, sparse series of branches to the right. I hope to have it semi finished for the AABC Convention later in the year where it is intended to be on show.

Your favourite bonsai was the public choice as well.
