Hoping the community can help me out here. Have tried procuring some through various other means, as well as germinating some seeds but no success so far...

Thanks for the tip. I've since had a look at their list. Nothing available at the moment, unfortunately. Have found some plants on the net at $45 in 25 cm pots (min 5 order) with no further description or pictures... I'll do it if i have to but would love some help from here if i can... C'mon Aussie. C'mon... C'mon.... C'mon Aussie, C'mon. (as per 80's TV ad)

Do you mean Sequoiadendron giganteum and/or Sequoia sempervirens?

Yeah, I tried to get hold of them about 15 years ago and in the last 10 years and had a hell of a difficult time. They aren't worth the effort to try and get hold of in my opinion.

I would just stick to metasequoia glyptostroboides or taxodium distichum, which you can get from Ray Nesci. They are very similar. But if you mean the american redwood, good luck!
There isn't much difference, and at the end of the day, if you have a redwood, a redwood is beautiful no matter which type it is.

I'm after the Sequoia sempervirens. I've got a few swampies, including a pretty big one I picked up from bonsai south. Its a bugger they're so hard to find as its less about recreating the look of a redwood and more about having one of these magnificent trees in my collection. I've visited muir woods in California twice in my life. Once pre-bonsai obsession and once post. When I was there last january, I knew I had to have one.

Might have to suck it up and the wallet for one.

Hi Ces , here are some photos of the medium size redwoods I collected .Of the others,the smaller two are thriving but the big one is struggling . All six trees were part of the same clump . I begged permission to collect just ONE more tree and proceeded to dig a trench around the clump about a metre in diameter . Returned the next day and undercut the whole lot exposing a pine root running diagonally through the clump . Severed the pine root , pulled on it and the clump fell into six pieces !

Very nice reg. What are your plans for them? Will you be keeping the large tenjin on the smaller one?

I picked up.2 today from another member of the forum. Zen was most gracious as I kept him waiting for about 15 mins and he was all smiles the whole time.

Hi Ces ,
my plans really depend on how the big tree (not pictured) goes . it is showing some good signs (new buds ) the last couple of days . If the big one survives I will keep it and sell the rest (too many trees as it is) . If the big dies I will sell all but one of the others . As to styling , have not got that far
yet . But the jins were what caught my eye in the first place , perhaps the image of a lightning struck tree ? Cheers Reg

Just as an aside more than anything, but when I was in the South Island of NZ last month I was simply blown away by the massive redwoods they have there. A place called Hanmer Springs is chockers with them, and the seeds were everywhere. I would be interested to hear from any NZ people on this site as to whether they have any luck with them there? I would love to have one.
