I have dug this out of the units garden looked so neglected (heehee) actually asked first, but I had in mind a cascade for the little darling. Has a very nice white flower, and just putting inside the pot pictured I had in mind of a cascade, but, if anyone has any other ideas please contribute.
The leaves are tiny, and hoping to keep the same size if possible.
The roots got a bit smashed in the dig up.
so to alleviate most of the damage I have it wrapped in peat moss, with glad wrap around it to encourage the new root growth.
I haven't used any root powder on it, as it has the minimal amount underside.

I have a few ideas thinking about bleaching?
Increasing back budding?
Wiring the branches out and down when the roots re-establish.

But any thoughts happy to listen to all.

How hardy are they for bonsai, the branches look awfully fragile.
Never seen anything with leaves this small before in the gardenia variety!

they are quite hardy and quite commonly used for bonsai both in Japan and here in australia. the mature branches(those that are hard and stiff) can break easily. the young branches however, are fairly flexible. the small leave size is both the variety and the fact that the tree is not very healthy and pushing out new growth. they will back bud quite easily when they are well fed and vigorous and defoliated in Spring time.

i personally don't grow this variety anymore since i have discovered a new hybrid "gardenia radican carolina". it has smaller leaves and flowers. and it grows more upright rather than the drooping nature of normal radican. i don't think it is available anywhere else yet. i bought my stock plants from the grower who discovered it 6 years ago just before he released this variety. and he sold the whole nursery to some property developer soon afterward.

Not at all mate, I think its definately something you could work with. Its something I'd definately work with at least Tien wasn't saying that it won't work, only that there is a another breed out there with smaller leaves/flowers that would be even better! I had a Radicans before, but it died from lack of water.... or should i say from me forgetting to water it

Sorry I gave the wrong impression I was making joke. I have potted the gardenia never seen a dwarf.
Not sure if it will survive the roots took a hammering so fingers crossed.

hahaha it was early when I read your post, prior to coffee, so was probably me missing the obvious again

I did have a couple going at one point, but one got infested with Mealy bug and the other died from water loss. I tossed the mealy infested one eventually... as I realised it would make a pretty bad bonsai (tall and straight) it was the perfumed flowers that I enjoyed the most, was always pleasant walking around to my little bonsai area and getting a waft of those flowers

Poor baby looks awful, the leaves has shrivelled and yellowed.

I have kept the soil moist, but the transplant is not doing well at all.

I don't think I got enough root mass with it.

Anyone have any ideas about a rescue for the dwarf gardenia please.

I have seasoled it a couple of times, put it in the shade with dappled sun.

Still not looking the best.

Gardenia not the hardiest species
Transplants of many species will often drop leaves to stay alive. You have done all the correct things for now. and hope it reshoots when the roots start to grow back.

Thanks shibui I have cut it right back. I put more hormone powder on it and replanted it. Then I went out to bunnings and bought another plant. Beautiful little shrub. The root ball on the old plant is not much but fingers crossed. Seasol once a week as with the rest of the seedlings and repots.

I do believe I killed it. No shoots but I'll wait until summer before last burial.

Bought another younger plant still the same species killed that too.

Knew there was a reason why I didn't like Gardenia. (Can't keep them alive.)

Win some lose some nature of the bonsai.
