The bark on the nabari on one of my maples is breaking off and gradually getting worst.
Does anyone know if I have a problem or not ?

I had a lot of problems when I purchased this tree last autumn, ants, mealy bugs & the soil that it was in would never dry out completely it was like mud. I repotted it last winter & it seems nice and healthy.
Bit scared if it's root rot or something.
Any advice would be great thanks

looks like the cambium is rolling over the wounded area and it looks like a healthy healing process to me.

I agree, it looks as though this area has been damaged at some point but is now healing over.

It is hard to tell from a photo - but if there is no soft pulpy wood it should be OK

Is the damage recent?
I suspect sunburn.

I'm not sure about the sunburn, I suppose it could be possible it only gets sun till about 1pm but we did have some high temp in Melbourne this summer.
It has defiantly been getting worst over the last month or so.

Just found this photo from last year when I purchased this tree, looks like the damage was from then and it is healing over.

Thanks for your advice
