I've got a large cotoneaster in the front yard thats about to get a bit of a clean out. I wouldnt mind trying to airlayer a couple of the more interesting branches before I trim it back but am wondering if its a bit late? I've heard they are pretty hardy and this one grows and shoots suckers like a weed, is it worth trying it now?

Hey mate, im not an expert on air layering by any means, havnt even done one yet, but just for my , i recently asked the exact same question about a silver birch. Its a big tree, and in danger of being cut down soon, and i got some advice here that suggusted yeah but maybe it is too late, but the reason i went ahead with my air layer, quite simply, why not?

if your cutting back or getting rid of the tree all together, why not give it a go, you've got nothing to lose

My advice is layer in late Autumn, use moist sphagnum moss so the cut doesn't get too cold in winter and pot up in spring when you see new shoots take off.
