So, I have had this Orange Jasmine for quite a while now. As you can see from the top pic in July last year to todays back and front pics, I have let it bulk up considerably and I was thinking that I will create some foliage pads but before I do, I thought I would seek some advise from the resident experts on my favourite Bonsai website.

No advice?

I'm not an expert, but I think some bend in the trunk would look nice.

The guidelines suggest not to have branches opposite each other I think.. But I don't know if it would make much difference!

Only just seen this one now.

Which is the front? The left lean or the right?
My concern is the long straight trunk in the pic that shows it

Although they are brittle, they can be bent when about 10cm thick or even better cut it back to develop some angles. they take wire well and will stay in shape after a few months.
They have compound leaves so do not make tight foliage pads easily.

I cut mine back regularly and want to keep it under tight control from now on.

Ken would it be best to not water for a couple of days before bending? Or longer? I know these are pretty drought tolerant....

Yes you guys are right, it does need a bend and indeed, which is the front and which is the back? If Ken cant tell then I really do have issues with this one!

Maybe I need to get radical......

How about this..Lose the first right hand low branch and the second left hand branch in the second picture. Then Use the third right hand branch as your new leader and get rid of the rest.

Yes but you will want to wire out the new leader with a bit of a sweep to the left now for movement and separate the branches.
