I pass this old gum on a regular basis, today I decided to pull over and snap a photo on my phone. The photo does not do it justice, it is a massive tree and is sitting right in the middle of a very large industrial development.

Thanks for posting. I see many trees in my area which are inspiring, but its rare to see a tree which has all the aesthetic qualities of a bonsai like this tree. Its a shame about the ugly construction in the surronds, but at least they didn't destroy the tree

It looks like they are protecting it, which is unusual for a development.

There are a few quite impressive big old gums around this development - I suspect that they are significant trees in the area, and as such the local planning authorities have marked as them protected. The tree looks much bigger in real life than the photo portrays. For anyone in the area - this tree is located right next to the new Master's store on Princess Hwy in Eumemmerring and can be seen from the hwy. I cant help but look for it everytime I drive down the hwy - will probably run into the back of someone one day!

lol, u better hope the judge lists 'bonsai' as one of her hobbies on her resume, in that case.

Gosh, that really is enormous, looking at the fence perimiter that was erected around it. Good to see the council protected it.

My interest in bonsai has certainly livened up my drive time and bushwalking...I find myself constantly examining the trees around me!

I have become a much more dangerous driver since my interest in bonsai - a tree lined road is not a safe place to be when I'm behind the wheel!

Not all councils are philistines when it comes to tree preservation
A couple of years ago I worked on the airport link tunnel project in Brisbane and there were quite a few trees ---- figs gums and an old ironbark that were protected and if any damage or death resulting from building works the monetary fines were astronomical ---- one fig in particular was worth $3000,000. Needless to say the main contractor was very vigilant and fenced a much larger area than just the trees
