I layered a section off a large Bougy at my mums house in 2011, and thought i might do a progression on it now.
I had it entered in the OfBonsai comp but ran out of time to complete the comp due to work commitments,
The tree is 500mm tall and about 800mm across, and the trunk is about 150mm diameter at the soil level.

I airlayed the vertical section off in 2012 and have that on the bench as a small tree as well

Plan to find a largish tray and pot up this year

my other tree is a Juniper,
one of the ones I collected a few years ago. It is also growing well

What bonsai style will you choose?

Will be slanting.
The angle of the trunk line will stay pretty much as per the last photos.

Bougies for me are very nice for bonsai...very forgiving too if you dont over water them...Interesting trunk line and lots of potential.
I think I messed up my OF bonsai entries...but I am new to competitions...so need to learn.
I chopped off all the branches back to 1 internode instead of wiring them and leaving them to show future direction...Silly woman...One of my trees looked like porcupine...but I submitted them...he he he

I do not like the OB site as it very hard to navigate around which is the main reason i missed the final pics, Could not keep track of the time to do things. Here we are much easier to follow the progress and comp timelines .

Though I posted the OB comp on here, I ended up not entering, and their site is the reason why. It's terrible.

Ken, You just wait...easy to navigate here??? It will not help me...I am going to post and have posted plenty porcupines here.

That will work. Are you just going to cover the elbow in the bottom of the trunk with a branch and foliage?

Can you try and see how it will look if you slant it like a cascade?

Yes I think that will be the plan
Also another clump of foliage covering part of the main trunk section too. Long straight sections of trunk look nice partially covered to disguise and break up lines

I doubt the root mass will allow that sort of planting angle. interesting thought tho

Taken some updated pics today of this tree.
I missed the end of the progression comp which is a pity, but gained a very nice tree from it tho

From here the top of the main trunk will have much more foliage and ramification developed over the next few years and I will pot up into a deepish Bonsai pot ( Rounded oval I think) this coming spring
