We moved in December from Johannesburg to Cape Town, a summer rainfall area to a winter rainfall area, as stated in my previous post.

Cherry bush-bought at the same time as the Calamondin. Spent most of his time in the garden. The move knocked him a bit; has not been so big as what he was in the garden.

Any advice on pruning techniques?

Hi Albie,

That looks like a fruiting cherry, so I can't give advice further than one would read up anywhere on basic deciduous tree shaping. I'm just not familiar with them.

The maple will like a sunny spot in all but the hottest times of year (dec - feb) when it would be better in morning sun or dappled shade. The wind can dry them out terribly as well, so a sheltered spot is good if you have one.

The big question on the shaping is: what is your design intention? There are loads of ways you can style any tree, but it's an individual choice as to how you go about it. Intended end size will play a significant role in how you shape and grow these trees.
