Love the top jin and new front. Also love the pot it is in and i guess you want to change it because of Size. I would keep the same pot but can also understand it would look more impressive in a smaller pot..

Current pot is beautiful. Hand made?
My vote is with pot #1. It would lend a more formal and serious air to this pine.
Cheers,
Luke

Pot 1 for me as I assume you want the smaller size.
is the current one a PK pot?

Current pot is from Penny at Mudlark Pottery.
I am still undecided which will be the new pot, I am thinking #3 which is the smallest but will be influenced by how much "root mass" I have to deal with.

Pot #1.
My

says that the current pot is a bit too large.
Did Hiro do a sketch of this tree Gerard?
If so perhaps you could add it to this thread.

This master class (advanced critique) does not normally involve drawings however they are the best to be involved in both as a participant and an observer. Each participant is allowed to have 2 trees critiqued, sometimes (as was the case with this JBP) I already had the plan but I wanted to be sure it was the correct decision. We discussed which would be the back branch, and if we should keep a jin and how much jin.
I think the jin is too large but Hiro suggested that I keep a large amount. It can always be reduced later. I will definitely make it a little thinner after looking at the photos.
We also discussed the pot options. Hiro saw option 1 and option 2 and suggested smaller if possible that is why I am leaning toward option 3.

Gerard pot#1 just to have a look but you can always immediately repot to pot #3 which ideally would most likely look better

that's what I'd be looking to do

Hi Gerard, For my

worth, I would go for pot 1. It is strong, masculine and powerful, just what you need for a JBP. If you think it is still too big, you must allow it to have some room to fill out a bit. I really love this little tree and the latest cut back has really taken it to the next level.

Regards Michael.

I am surprised that #2 does not rate a mention.
It has the same size internally as #1 but because it has no lip it is much smaller visually which is what I hope to achieve, I have not yet ruled it out. I suppose that come potting time I will have them all ready to go.

for me it is a much softer pot ( feminine). the others are stronger / harsher and thus will make the tree look stronger as well.

Hi Gerard,
Lovely little Pine, I like Pot 3 as for me the others seem to be too large for it and give a feeling of being over potted. Here are a couple of rough virt's for you of each of the pots you selected. I do like your idea of having each pot ready to go in case you change your mind at the time of repotting.
