I have a Coastal Banksia I bought at Terry Hills, and I want to chop its trunk to make it smaller and restyle it.
When is the best time to perform the trunk chop on 6 years old one and a half foot high Banksia? And once this is done, when/how long till it is to be transferred into my chosen bonsai pot?
Cheers

I have just pruned a very large 2nd trunk off one of my banksias last week. I think pruning can be done any time. They will probably not shoot until the weather warms up but pruning should not do any harm.

Re-potting is best in warmer weather. Might be ok in Sydney now but I would advise waiting a little while if you can contain yourself. I re-pot banksias from late Oct through to Feb. The ones I re-potted in March struggled and only produced new shoots the following November so I believe warm weather is best - as for most natives.

Thanks shibui.
Think I will go ahead and make the chop, then wait and see what happens :fc:
