As most should know, I am a member of "The School of Bonsai" and attend every Tuesday night for the "advanced" class.

A few other members on AB attend with me, along with serveral other teachers of the School, and after this amount of time, the night is essentially a workshop where we get assistance if required of each other and our 4 teachers.
Our trees are discussed / critiqued by all and sundry and worked on by ourselves, and occasionally work gets done in team environment. The format of the school is not 1 presenter having a chat and demoing, but a collective learning experience for all :-)

The second last night of each term is a display night, where all are encouraged to bring a long a tree or 3 and put on display. one of the teachers will Judge each Bonsai and Rank them thru the night, then at the end, do a critique on each of them.
The members get to vote on the 1st and second placed trees as well and the results are usually interesting.

The night is designed to make us think about how we display our trees, and improve the presentation of them in all its form. This is just another way the School teaches. Nothing like doing it with your own trees to learn about the finer points of presentation   :crikey:

Last night the theme was "Small Trees", and we had a great response and heaps of trees on display, So many that we ran out of room on the benches and had to squash them all together :-),

They all look very nice. I like the root over rock one. I think display is very important, I'm working on it. From what I have read in books from some masters, especially the Japanese, is that 'how does the viewer perceive your tree', does it invoke some emotion, the Sabi and Wabi school Principal. That is one of the reasons I like adding figurines. But I pick the ones suitable for the tree. Like fairies for an English elm, would not look as appropriate for an Asian tree, eh?

Have no idea actually :-) Some succulent.
I grabbed an offcut from someone at school that was pruning theirs and just whacked it in a pot :-)

Well Ken, and TSoB members!

The Umbrella Tree is one best styled of that species that I've seen

Lovely pots and trees as well as overall displays, that later of which I think we are only just getting our heads around in Aus (rather than just dumping a bonsai on a table)
