i received this Juniper from a friend almost 12 months ago and didn't really know what to do with it. The Bottom Jin had already been there for some time and I thought it was lacking in the branch department. I Havn't had much experience creating cascade styles either so i thought i would have a go at it at the same time. I'm happy with how it turned out and think it is a good addition to my fast growing collection.

Any tips on how to improve the dead wood look would be appreciated. As i said this is my first attempt at it.

Also, Do others put anything on deadwood to make it look older or does that just come with time?

Search Dead wood or jin with the ausbonsai search button top right and have a look at the wiki. Plenty of info should come up.

Dead wood is usually painted with lime sulphur to preserve and bleach it.

Your pics do not show it - I hope you have left bark connecting the live branches to the roots????

I would cut off the live section off the "deadwood" and then shorted the Jin.
