This was dug out from under the patio slab a few years ago . I ripped out the original vine 17 years ago and low and behold this struck from the roots left in the ground some 10 years later .It was sprayed with roundup , hack off numerous times , layerd off and then I decided the only way to get rid of it was to dig it out .

I bare rooted and repoted it yesterday as it was pot bound in a 200mm pot .It needed a 400mm pot to hold the big rock and a bit of an extention to cover the soil I have created a root over rock and decided to give it a quick , rough wire up for the flower display .Will it survive , who knows for sure but nothing ventured nothing gained . If I couldn't kill it with roundup it should be good to grow .

Look foward to seeing it in show! Amazing how resilient they can be. I found one at the tip on its side in a busted plastic pot on top of the brick piles baking in the summer sun. I asked if I could take it and the bloke said it's been there a week but good luck. Repotted and then leafed out and even got flowers that year!

Hi Mount Nasura , mate they certainly must be tough to survive dormant for 10 years then sprout from a root left underground . It actually grew between the cladding hence I layered it off and killed the layer , tried to kill it where it was and finally dug the bugger out .

The original plant was started back in the 60's , it had strangled the veranda post and jacked the roof up .There is still tell tale signs of it in the roof cavity . From memory I think it is blue but haven't identified the name of it .

Well its flowering and with the wind here its getting knocked around but its good to see the colour I have a plan to layer the top off and create another hopefully not killing the layer this time .

Hi kc , mate 2 of them are around 200mm long the rest average 120mm . Ispotted a couple down the street tonight , might get a pic or two of them and see if they are the same .

Hi Bodhi , mate i have an Emethyst here that leafs out first then begins to flower , just beginning to flower now . The temps up here are all over the show , more frost coming tomorrow .

I found some spare time {too stuffed to dig tree's } to put this in its place . Very happy with the root over rock concept and with the roots trimmed I decided to line the bottom of the pot with black plastic to make removal in the future easier . It has at least 2 seasons of growth in the pot between re-pots so it there til 2017 . It will be trimmed after flowering as there is a little bit of die back in certain area's . Look forward to seeing a few flowers on it .As for the size , a tube of silicon gives a good indication Cheers Alpineart

Hi Boom64 it has very good movement well balanced and a new shoot/leader sprouting from the bottom to make for another trainer . The pot has been sit empty for too long but i think it works well here and will give plenty of root run for less re-pots .

This had an open container layer set earlier in January to remove an overgrown leader , a narrow container was needed to fit between the branches so a yogurt container was chosen for its shape . Severed yesterday , potted up trimmed, thats the extent of bonsai work here at the moment . Planning on digging a few Natives to see if the live or die ?? need them gone as rock work begins again now the cooler weather has arrived .

Got a bit over excited this morning and ripped into a few tree's , this got a re-pot and a basic wire job only because I needed the bloody big crescent training pot , "lucky tree" as I don't really have the time anymore .

This has progressed well , the layers are growing so they all had a re-pot todayA bit lighter than the other pot .
