MARIE HEWARTSON – a new Queensland Potter
Marie Hewartson of Birkdale does a varied range of natural and glazed bonsai containers.
Marie has been doing bonsai for 20 plus years and has a good feel for pots. Her pottery qualifications are even more impressive – she has been working with clay for 45 years. She was a TAFE ceramics teacher for 28 years. She's done production work and artwork and her ceramics are represented in major Qld galleries.
4 years ago Marie came out of retirement and got a new lease on life by creating bonsai pots. Also, she didn't want junk pots on her trees, she wanted them to be in pots that reflected the tree's quality - quality Australian pots for quality Australian trees.
Making unique pots is important so individuality reigns and the pot compliments the tree and the owner's taste.
She does special orders and appears at Qld bonsai exhibitions selling her pots. She doesn't have a website. Marie prefers creative orders to give her pottery expertise a workout but she is happy to do any order that will create a pot to enhance a bonsai.
Marie can be contacted on blakeholm@gmail.com And where's my Marie Hewartson pot?? My travelling companion snatched it from under my seeking fingers and first come first serve.
