Personally, I don't like them, they look artificial.

But when you said Japan not yours, then I understand.

The young lady's clothing pattern is freaking out my monitor. As to the trees, I'm impressed with the gardener's talent, but not with the result.

I appreciate the time, effort and skill that have gone into growing these trees even though they are not my cup of tea.

One in your garden particularly your front garden would get some comments? They are creative though, I'll give you that.

So fanciful, I love'em but don't you class this as topiary? How may of them do you sell a year?

These are topiaries. I agree, they are not bonsai, although the smaller ones, technically can be considered bonsai if they were potted. Some growers like this trained style, but in my opinion they are trained as topiaries, or over trained bonsai. Having said this, to get these trees to this point takes many hours of hard work and although growing in the ground, many of the bonsai principles are used. I would definitely want a couple of these if I was creating a Japanese garden. These topiaries automatically give the Japanese garden the feel of a controlled garden.
Each to their own on this, but my opinion is that I respect the craftsmanship and work that has gone into creating these trees. It takes great skill to create and maintain this.

I stand to be corrected all, but i think this is called Niwaki styling of trees. It's not bonsai and is not intended to be bonsai.
Cheers,
