I grew this tree from a tiny cutting. Started styling it last year while it was still in the ground.

Today I styled it, and carved it a bit.

Nice tree Neli! Good job. I like what you have done. It's got interesting trunk characteristics, and is getting a good shape.

Definately a great tree. To get to this from a cutting is really well done. Not sure what bonsai this species makes, but seems to have a good foundation to work from.

Thanks Andrew and Gerhard.
I used to have 3 garden centers for close to 30 years, and I grew all the plants myself on the farm. This trees did not sale well so they were shifted at the end of the growing area. The roots escaped and the trees were forgotten when I closed the project. All the good plants were sold and only few remained...They were not watered for over 10 years and as you know we dont have a drop of rain from March to November. The trees grew and sort of got stuck next to each other...but did not fuse. They were over 3 m tall when I dug them out and chopped them hard back...I trew away most of them, for this thing looks a bit herbaceous to me and I was not sure if it will make good bonsai.
It has very long internodes with straight branches.
I planted it at home in the ground and started growing the branches and chopping them hard back,
Last year in September I dug it out and root reduced it.
Since then I have been doing the same...grow a branch long and fat and cut back.
The lesson I learned from this tree is that thinning needs to be done on time so the light reaches the inner branches or they will die. I had lots of die back of inner smaller branches.
But it back buds very well so hopefully all will be OK in future.

I can see my pictures are missing so thought of updating it with new pictures. It is doing very fine. I have been just cutting back to 0 or 1 internode. Need to fine tune it soon and remove the extra branches,
I planted it over a plastic and the nebari is buried deep in the soil, so the roots develop better before I expose them.
meanwhile the roots have escaped to the soil under but from the sides of the plastic, so that they are fattened but still flat and nice nebari.
any advise will be appreciated.
