Hi there,

Here is my Oak, I just noticed it on Sunday so I thought it should be posted. Any suggestions would be welcome (I haven't really touched it in 2 years)

Hi Damian,
there is a guy on this site who is shithot with oaks. His name is Miyagiman and i .am pretty sure he is well known at your club. Anyways you can contact him for advice. He did a talk at our club (goldfields) and had some very refined oaks. My only help would be to let it grow another couple of years.

I would cut it back to the first branch ( left one in Pic #2) and then cut back hard on that one to develop some taper. Then leave alone for at leat the next year to see what you have

Sorry for the late reply, I have had trouble logging on for the past week or so.
I have a Tony Bebb workshop coming up soon, I am going to take the oak there (if I remember) and I will post pics of the results

I'm sorry to be a trifle late replying Damian but I feel that the tree flying away in two directions is likely to be a problem. Although windswept is not a style usually associated with Fagus, I couldn't avoid seeing this in your bottom photograph. What do you think? =Don

quercus don, oak not beech mate. but i do agree with you on that being the better trunk line regarless of stlye in the future. then damian you need to get that thing into some soil where it can stretch its legs and run, so as to put some meat on it.

Don and Ant, I thank you both for your advice. I may not take it to workshop now, instead I may choose another (plenty of em) and I think it can go into the ground (plenty of that too)
