Hi all, I finally wired my Mugo pine and would love to hear any thoughts. I know the pot is not ideal but at the time it was all I had. Having said that, feel free to comment on what pot you think would complement this tree. I have included a couple of alternative fronts by rotating the tree slightly. I am also unsure about the two leaders on this tree, seem too even in size to me. Would really like to hear your thoughts.
Cheers fos.

I agree and it does not matter which one you remove it wont leave you with a lower branch as they are to even on the trunk. I would keep the left hand trunk and remove the heavier front branch on the right hand side. Manoeuvre the back branch you have moved to the left at the back around to the right and it should be higher and will give you a right hand lower branch.

Thanks bodhidharma. Yep i agree, that right side leader has to go. I had another thought, keep the large right hand side branch, V-Cut it underneath and pull that branch down. Cut off the right leader, not sure about the back branch if it should stay or go if I do this. If I go this route, when would be the best time to attempt it.
Cheers fos.

Not sure of mugos as there is not a whole heap of info out there but, to be on the safe side, pines are worked most heavily during the colder months. July/August is usually a good time, thats when i work mine generally.

A quick virt of what I think, it will take a while to develop upper branches on the right side but it looks loke a couple of branches could come across with wiring.
You could do a little reduction now but winter is best.

Hi
I would bring the first left branch a little higher so it looks less like a bar-branch.
Beautiful pine.

I can't believe I am saying this, "I can't wait till Winter". And I'm in Tassie! Thanks guys you have all been a great help and I will give your suggestions a go. I assume I should be cutting back the candles as they extend and maybe thinning out some to only two? Of all the varieties of trees I have, Pines are my less understood in how they grow and pruning of them.
Cheers fos.
