Firstly thanks to Hugh for creating this post, I have 11 pages of reading to go before I attack my Black Pine. and thanks to everyone who has posted further with advise, comments and knowledge.

To date I removed two large branches and created little jins of them wired the existing crown down and simply maintained the health of the tree. I have had it only for two years,
Looking forward to the future of this tree,
as of this morning

and simply removing the stuff I knew to be safe.

Nice tree watty,
That last pic would make a great front, is that the intention?
Mate bit of wire and then sit back and enjoy!

Yeh thanks Kez, most likely, but probably a little turn to the right as the second movement of the trunk is very long and straight and a little change in the potting angle could help to hide it.
Anyway that's the plan, it's what makes God laugh- make a plan.

RIP JBP
Nothing I could do on this one, it was amongst a small bunch of trees that I lost all at the same time due to a frog crawling into the sprinkler head and not only blocking it but dying in there and stopping water flow for a few days while I was away.
What can you do, bugger.
