Whats this Pine looking bush?

We were out delivering cakes this morning and saw this bush at the drive way - after explaining my interest in Bonsai and how that has influenced my new appreciation of all things green and growing, I took these pics (iPhone, sorry), does anyone know what it is and its suitability to Bonsai? I'm looking in my area for trees/bushes that seem t survive in Hedland:

Hard to be sure but I suspect it may be a hakea

Is that purple splodge supposed to be a flower? Way out of focus so very hard to be certain but I'll take a punt on one of the Eremophilas - emu bushes. As the name eremophila implies they love arid environments which would fit in with Headland. They have tubular flowers and there's quite a few purple flowered ones.

Hahaha I'm so sorry but that made my day!
I tried several times to get a better picture but it was somewhat windy! Thank you shibui, that was priceless!
If I get a chance I'll go back as get a better photo...

A look at the bark on the trunk might also give some clues.
Habit - height, width, multi trunk shrub or single stemmed tree, spreading, upright, etc - is also useful info although this is in a garden so may not show its true size, shape and form yet.
I think there's probably enough detail of the leaves already.
