[WANTED] Large, Unglazed rectangular pot

Hey guys,

So I am beginning the search for a pot that suits my largest tree. Merely due to its size, its the focal point of my collection for most people who come to our house and its still in plastic pot. Its a Ficus benjamina that I styled at the beginning of my bonsai journey. I probably wouldn't style it that way now but I'm going to do the Walter Pall thing and say its in the 'fairytale' style.

Anyway it has a fairly difficult root base and will require a pretty big pot. I'm in the mart for an unglazed, rectangular pot somewhere in the dimension of 800-1000 X 500 X 150 mm. I'm looking for something fairly masculine. These pics are to give you a bit of an idea of what I'm thinking.

Let me know if you have an idea where I might find one or if you have a candidate pot. Appreciate the help, as always guys.

Cheers,

Ces.

My bonsai Mate, Doug, is bringing a flock of LARGE pots to the ausbonsai sale at Auburn and has incredible prices on them.... and I mean INCREDIBLE. $20 for a large nicely made Japanese pot... and more. He wants to move them on and it would be hard to buy a shohin pot for the prices he is asking. If you want a large pot DO come to the 7 March sale at Auburn. Bargains unbelievable...

If you want the pot sooner send me a PM and I will see if he is open to having you visit his place in Lewisham.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I've since checked out bonsai south but nothing big enough there. He's just got a lot of new nice pine stock in though. Next step is to try and make it to the market day. And if i make it... try and keep my eyes just on the pots.

Hey guys,

I'm still looking for a pot for this tree. Anyone got any fresh leads? I'd like to get it in a pot this coming summer.

Cheers,

Ces.

Hi Ces , pots of that size are hard to come by . If a local potter attempts them kiln size is a factor and the failure rate is high so they are hugely expensive . Imported pots are rarely that deep . I recently did a free form pot for an artist in Sydney . Maybe a formal variation on this theme would suit ?
Cheers
Graham

If you have tried the above suppliers and no luck then you will probably have to import yourself :palm:

Really surprised if you couldn't get something from Bonsai Environment. I've got pots from him the size of ute backs (well nearly anyhow :D ) Might be worth another call, if you've been out there before.

Do some hard yards and find some Chinese (better Vietnamese*) furniture shops.

Many have pots as well. Usually not top end stuff, but serviceable.

I have an approx 600 x 400 pot sourced this way.

Surprised you didnt find anything at Bonsai South, Leong has some huge figs in equally large pots. I know he has some big pots under his benches outside but I've never inquired about whether they are for sale. I would have thought that if he doesn't have anything on hand then he would know where to get it
