Hi Guys,

Was just wondering whether watering my bonsais every day would be having a negative effect on them.. Theyre all pretty standard species (Trident Maples, Chinese Elms, Ficus', Buxus). I've read that over watering can cause leaves to go yellow and stress the plants out. They're all in well draining bonsai soil. Considering the soil there in, would it be logical to assume that excess water would just drain out and render overwatering impossible?

What i got out of that is that with coarse soil, overwatering wont be the end of the world.

you will also be losing nutrients/minerals, but that will happen even with a sparse watering regime.

It depends on your soil mix, - How it holds moisture and how well it drains

The roots need to dry out a little and not stay wet. A good well draining mix will allow you to water more often, but you may not need to if it hold moisture in a form the plant can use.
Also depends on the plant itself, Does it need or benefit from high moisture content in the soil?

Not a simple answer but with a well drainied mix it is really hard to overwater.
