Does anyone remember a thread with benches that featured a wooden top and steel flat bar legs that were bent into the shape of half an hour glass?
I swear someone posted it on here and Ive had a REAL good look.....
Thanks in advance!

Ok so looks like I may have imagined it.....
For some reason I've had a picture of this bench in my head for a while so I started to build it today. Managed to finish bending the legs.
I made a jig so I could bend them both the same.

Here are the finished legs.

They are made out of 50 X 10 flat bar. They are pretty heavy but I think the weight is good because the bench will be quite high at 1.2 meters. The heavy legs will stop it from tipping over etc....
The actual bench part will have an angle iron frame and western red cedar slats.
I'll get it hot dip galvanised and then paint it with some sort of harbour bridge grade matte black paint so it's bomb proof!
I'll keep posting about this build as it continues and if anyone wants a detailed explanation of how to make it I'll provide one.....
To me it's a semi art deco take on a modern bonsai bench?

Pretty cool, shame I don't know how to bend metal that thick with such accuracy. I could probably make a pretty convincing banana shape though haha.
Thanks for sharing,

Haha yeah its not exactly a Bunnings D.I.Y project.
I just thought I would show what can be done.
@Ken. I'm lucky that my job gives me access to this sort of equipment.........

Top frame and first assembly....
Still need to clean up the frame, get it galvanised, paint it and seal the timber.
My engineering was a little bit out because it had quite a bad wobble due to the heavy legs pivoting on one point. That was fixed with one brace across. This can be used to hang stuff on if necessary.....

Looking great. I could see this selling quite easily in a fancy furniture shop for a few $$$

Looks stunning, but I'd pop a hole in the bottom corner of each leg and bang a tent peg into the ground to give it a bit more stability. Just a thought.

I've been overseas and only got back yesterday so haven't touched it since the last update.
Still needs to be painted. In hoping to have it finished by the end of next week.
Good idea Andrew. It might be ok because the thing is ridiculously heavy. I probably wouldn't try and move it by myself fully assembled and I'm 32 and 6'2". I'll just have to see how it feels in its home with trees on it. Definitely might still need securing though. Especially with the weather Sydney had while I was away!

Hi Island Breeze,
Mate you may already know this. Galvanizing needs a etch primer before painting. If it's not treated the paint will peel off.
