Spoke to Megumi Bennetts husband on sunday about purchasing junipers and he said rather than using expensive rooting hormones like $14-20 for a small bottle.
He insist on using Vegemite as the alternative, has anyone tried using Vegemite as a rooting hormone on Junipers or any plant in general?

Yes, on hard wood ficus cuttings, I think its the Vit B that helps.

I think pup has used honey quite successfully too.

might be interesting to see how it goes on other species. Ficus, in my experience at least, readily root without anything added.

What about honey for juniper?

From a bit of reading it would seem honey and Vegemite may seal the cut and provide some antifungal properties allowing roots to form.

Ive only propagated procumbens juniper and that was done using a paste made from honey and root hormone powder, what var of juniper are you planning on propagating?

Been using it for years,useful on everything.

Very interesting about vegemite, have not heard that one before. Have heard good things about honey though, and Pup has a few posts around on his success using honey too... i've got a link somewhere....

I have had success using both, I have also used vegemite as a soaking solution when I have transplanted. As in ( Superthrive ) it is high Vitamin B which helps.

Honey is an antibacterial to help the callous before pathogens stop roots forming.

What about the salt content of vegemite? Would this be bad for cuttings?

Would any honey have any success other than the one you used. ie: Tableland Honey (Mudgee product) got a alot from my aunt

Raw honey would probably be superior to processed honey. The processing hears the honey to kill off any potentially bad bacteria but also kills off all the good stuff. If you can get hold of some local honey from a producer it would be far superior to eat and I'm sure have far better antibacterial and antifungal properties.
