Hi all, I'm after some advise about my juniper. I would like to bulk up those thin branches in the middle of the tree but am worried that the larger apex is sucking up all the trees energy. Should I cut it back to free up some energy for thickening the thin branches? I'm a newbie to bonsai and would appreciate any suggestions.
Thx, Brad

Apex nearly always takes most of the energy and lower branches do no develop well so prune the top more than the lower and weaker branches to give them a chance to catch up.
You can prune any time of year so I would get it done asap to save further weakening of those middle branches.
Looks quite healthy so you are doing a good job looking after it so far
I'm sure your tree would grow better if you rotated it 90 degrees to a vertical position

Thanks Shibui, I'll certainly look at pruning the apex back ASAP in order to spread the trees energy to the thin branches and trunk.
It is a little annoying having to replace the gravel that falls out of the sideways pot so I might start growing it vertically
