Trying to locate some atlantic cedars in NSW thats close.
So far Ray and Megumi don't have starter stock but they have ones that are $20+. However its a good price but getting cuttings will be hard even both Ray Nesci/Alex Bennett said it will be hard to propagate them.
Anyone know any nurseries that have starter stock.

Go for the $20 ones, it'll give you more to play with and have saved you ~5 years in growth

these are pretty flexible species, so you'll still be able to manipulate most of the tree

But what would you use to propagate?
Osmocote Propagating mix + propagating sand with a mini green house?

try the nursery on powder works road Eleanor's heights, on occasions he has had them and

at a good prices .Only draw back is he doesn't open until 11.00 am

Osmocote Propagating mix + propagating sand with a mini green house?

Cedrus species VERY difficult to grow as cuttings. I have only ever had 1 set roots and do not waste my time trying any more. Most are grown from seed or grafted onto seedlings. Theses are very slow to grow. A $20 starter would be a very good investment if you really want to grow these as bonsai.

How many weeks did it take to root 1 cedar cutting?
If I do get a Cedar that just so happens to have some cones, is it ok to grow them. I do have plenty of time and I'm 21

Other back ups will be foemina or sargent juniper (like john naka) but will have an arch formation, elms (bonsai south) got a good starter selection.

I think it's not the time it takes to make roots, more it more take 500 cutting to get 1 successful.

I've forgotten. The only 1 I ever manged to grow was about 20 years ago. Have not been able to do it since and I've tried quite a few times Probably 6 months or 9 months to get roots on a cedar cutting.

Having cones is just the first step. The cones need to have ripe seed inside AND some of the seed needs to be viable. Only a few of the seeds I get from the trees here grow when I plant them. All in all quite a frustrating species to propagate but do have fun trying.
