No clue what these are and I've seen alot of them lately. Went to see my bonsai and I see them mating as well

Thinking about putting protection cloth on my plants. Don't even know if they laid any eggs on foliage, branches and soil.
Also its yellow underneath, no bugger than 10-20c coin in diameter

Is there a way to get rid of them?
Is cloth protection needed?

I actually had these all over my garden. They didn't touch any of my trees though... They must have good taste in Bonsai haha.
In all seriousness though, never had an issue with em.

Do you know what it is though, Longicorn Beetle?? Tree Borer family?
Really don't want my trees dying if they end up causing problems

So from what I was reading and posting on BS Forum.
One of the members say its Soldier Beetles which has the same body colour etc.. and on Yates website, it also has the same thing.
http://www.yates.com.au/garden-expert/a ... -lawn-area
Are they good in a way where "These beetles are called Soldiers Beetles. They are a soft bodied insect that tend to gather in large swarms in lawns and more commonly in flowering trees and shrubs. They gather there to attack insects that are attracted to the nectar".
Some articles

What are your thoughts - to remove them or leave them be?

Soldiers Beetles for sure. They won't cause any issues for your trees and they'll be gone as soon as it starts to cool down. I had them for a couple of months, never saw them damaging a tree and barely ever on a tree, seems they're more interested in mating haha.

I assumed the shape of these beetles placed them in the same catagory as the local beetle borers we have here---
nice to know that these are goodies not baddies
