Yes you can do it now or anytime - it doesn't get cold here in Brissy.

It does get cold in Brisbane at this time of year. Its better to cut the tree when its actively growing in the warmer weather .

The generally accepted guide is that when the overnight temps start to dip below 16 Dec C, then we stop work on figs.
on my own trees I find that i can safely work them even now and have no issues, Here it is getting down to 10 ovenrnight and my figs are still going strong, so are happy still to be worked on.

I'm just south of Coffs Harbour and although its probably ok to prune now and the tree be fine, I wouldn't where I am other than a light trim. I'm probably colder than Brissy but not much and my figs get good sun.

My thought is the tree won't put out a lot of new growth even in Brisbane before winter which means less leaves for photosynthesis and less energy being produced and stored for next springs growth. I'ld leave as much leaf on as possible and cut back in spring once the tree starts to move again.
