Has anyone had any success using systemic insecticides against curl grub? Most of my trees are way too big to soak in water to remove them so I am looking for an effective chemical solution. Nay advice would be much appreciated.

Carbaryl used to be the go to chemical but I thought it was now banned because of toxicity.
I just googled it and it is still available at Bunnnings
http://www.bunnings.com.au/richgro-250m ... -_p3012210 in a product.

change your soil mix to include at least 30-50 % diatomite.
You will never have another grub in sight. and no chemicals

I have in the past sprinkled a powder on the surface of my pots and watered it in. Only ever had one issue with curl grubs - and that was while my trees were being looked after by someone else. I'll get the name of the powder tomorrow as I can't remember it right now. It comes in a red container, is available in the Big green Shed and the one I used is for killing ants, but it is the same as the curl grub killer, just cheaper.

Try Confidor Lawn and Garden Insecticide. It's a Yates product and a systemic spray or water in

A drench with pyrethrum will also do the trick

I wonder if Condies Crystals would work? Works on the mucous coating of worms?
Any one tried?

I have read that this works well but not so confident that I want to try it on my trees.

Thanks everyone for all your great ideas. This year seems to very bad for curl grub, to the extent that it nearly killed one of my figs. I had to repot it to get all the little buggers out. I will give the confidor a try I think and see if I can keep them under control.

Hi Ken
I'll second that haven't had one curl grub in my trees as I grow mostly in 60% diatomite/ pumice and 40% orchid pine bark haven't seen hide nor hair of them and hopefully never will

I tried this several years ago Grant. It didn't seem to have much effect so I put 3 or 4 grubs into a strong solution and left them for a few days. When I tipped them out, the grubs were fine but now they were a beautiful lilac colour

Ok, that sounds like an emphatic NO.
Thanks
