Planted 3 acres at my mums place probably about 5 years ago I think, finally dug them
Out last night as mums house is up
For sale, can't get a good pic tonight coz I've left it too late but will post pics tomorrow , the trees were Acer palmatum senkaki , Acer palmatu senkaki dwarf and a Acer palmatum shishigashira

Looking forward to the pictures...

The larger one is an Acer pal senkaki the smaller broom style is a dwarf senkaki , will post photos of the shishigashira tomorrow

The shishigashira might struggle to produce back buds. I think the graft is higher up the trunk and it's been cut off. Shishigashira has tight compact Internotes, the trunk looks nothing like it.

100% graft is below where I cut it, I'm confident it will back bud I grew hundreds of these in the wholesale nursery I worked for and I've trunk chopped a few and they have come back well . This was grown in the ground for 5 years the Graft now is barley visible and the scar on the front hides it well

It's hard to see the graft (might be my untrained eyes), is it above the 'V' scar?!? It's the only place I can see an irregularity in the trunk shape...

Had to read that a few times, trying to work out '3 acres' till I realised you meant 3 'acers'... I was thinking 3 acres is a hell of a lot of trees!! They look good, nice foundations

The root stock is enlarged and almost swollen, you can see if you look closely , after the bulge the trunk thins out and this is where the shishigashira starts. Good grafts or budded trees will almost dissapear when the tree is older. Can't wait for spring!! Hopefully lots of buds popping

Haha I just realised ! Damn autocorrect , if only I had 3 acres of acers!!!

Can the 2 senkaki's grow well enough on their own roots? As in if someone were to air-layer it off, above the graft.

I have another senkaki that I'm going to try do an air layer early spring , I'm excited to see what happens !

I'm going to take some small cuttings off a large tree at a family members place, come later spring and early summer time. I can't do an air-layer unfortunately as they live a bit too far of a distance to continually maintain the air-layer, so i'll see how I go.
