I made this account to,ask. This is my first,bonsia and im really wanting to keep at it, my ony issue is that my tree is starting to brown on the tips of some needles. Im in canada and it is starting to get warm. Where i have the tree is in sun for about half the day ad shade the rest. I waterwhen soil starts,to dry out and have found no pest. It is potd in soil not a,stony mix. Plz help my little friend.

Firstly, welcome!

Secondly, some people on here are having the same issue, I believe the consensus is that it's caused by a fungus. The threads can be found here:

Hmm... Scratch the bark on the trunk a little bit and check if it's still green under there. Looks like the foliage isn't anywhere near as green as it should be from the photo you posted and I fear the worst for your little tree. If it's still green then we'll tackle some additional troubleshooting.

Also, why are there so many roots out of the soil? Did you purchase it like that?

Canada is a big country. Are you west coast or harsher inland climate? Where do you keep it through winter?

I live in ontario about an hour north of toronto. I just bought the tree about a month ago. Under the bark is a bit of green but it is quite shallow on the bark and just wood under.

I visited north of Toronto many years ago in mid summer and it was quite pleasant; but I imagine winter is a real bugger.

Can I ask if your talking Centigrade or Fahrenheit? I think that would have a major bearing on this conversation...

In Australia we are measuring temperature in degrees centigrade. I noticed you are from Canada...

You are talking Cecius, not Farenheit?

If it is late spring have you had any growth/elongation over the last month or is it sitting dormant? If it hasn't grown in the last month then the tree is in trouble.

No not ferenheit lol and yes i have had new,growth it just started looking bad this week.

OK, well the 2 usual suspects are a dry out; or the opposite and staying too wet. If it is spaghnum moss around the roots and/or the roots on the surface then it could have stayed too wet over a month and is now showing damage. Root rot can set in and it s the foliage that shows the damage.

If it was a dry out then you may be able to identify when that was and why; and not allow it to happen in the future.

The tree will recover or not depending on how bad the dry out was or how bad the staying too wet was.Time will tell.

If you think it is root rot then that can be treated with something from a plant nursery.

You will soon have hotter weather and should guard against dry outs and maybe keep in partial but not heavy shade.

Thanks i will,rwmove the moss and try to keep it safe. The roots under the moss dont look or smell bad. Im not too sire what im looking at but ill do my best.

Under the soil you want to see lots of fine white roots.

When they are all brown, that's when its bad.

The more photos you put up showing what you're look at, the better people can see what's going on.
