Hi all, I come across this tree tonight that I have never seen before. Can't find it on google either. It has a paper bark, and long weeping needle like foliage. I took some photos, but only had an iPhone, so they are pretty crap unfortunately. I also took a cutting to gather the seeds, and hopefully strike roots on something. Any ideas??
Tim

Thanks sno. According to Wikipedia, that looks like it, but the photos on several other sites look nothing like it. If it is melaleuca irbyana, it's on the critically endangered species list. Only grows in one or two locations in SE QLD and northern NSW. And this tree was in a park nowhere near any of those locations.

G'day Tim C . Formerly Melaleuca tamariscina , or it could be another sub species there of . If it's in a park it could of been planted outside of its natural occurrence
Here's a link .

Thanks sno. I believe you are correct. I just never thought I'd stumble across a critically endangered species growing in a park near me. Got heaps of seed from it, so I imagine there will be a few more growing around this area soon. It's a nice looking tree.

Tim good luck with the cuttings

, that way you know you have some stock 'true to form ' . There can be variation in seed , which well may be the case in this particular tree . Even if it is not irbyana it looks like it has good potential to create interesting bonsai .
Cheers Sno
