Juniper

I've noticed some browning of my Junipers over the last few weeks. The foliage tips seem to be off colour. A few do not have the dark luscious green they used to.

I live in Melbourne and we are in the middle of winter.

What could be causing this?

That looks like one of mine. Not sure of the cultivar name but they do change colour a bit in winter. If it's bronzy or purpleish - No broblem. If it's brown - you should spray for mites and fungus to be safe. Diluted lime sulphur will work. (1 part to 10 water)

Depends on the type of juniper? Some can go brown in winter, but yours seems to look like it is going into bloom. Some do turn bronze colour,or purple, with the cold as well. Also back off with the watering, if you think the plant is dry,it is probably too wet.

It's a Shimpaku.

He means if you're thinking it's dry then you are probably watering it more, leading toward the problem not being helped by over watering.

Hi mate,

I don't think there's anything wrong with your tree. Keep an eye on it and make sure you don't over water as Shimps don't like wet feet.

If you have them in a good mix you wont be able to over water. Since you're in Melbourne, I'd suggest pulling it gently out of the pot and snapping some shots of the root ball and soil mass - best do this after a day of no water (which at the moment is fine).

We'll have a better idea of whats going wrong, if anything at all.

Cheers,
Mo

I'd watch the water to be safe
