Hi everyone,
I am still on the lookout for a large unglazed drum pot for the yamadori radiata pine i have been working on with mauro. I am not in a rush to buy one but would like to find the right pot sooner than later.
Can anyone suggest somewhere to try that posts to Adelaide?
Thanks

What size are you roughly after? I have some grey Tokoname or brown Chinese.

Grey Tokoname Drum Pot.jpg
These pots are pricey but very nice.
I brought 4 back from Japan in February as they are one of my all time favourite pots.

Roughly 35-40cm diameter and 8-10 cm deep. Prefer brown rather than grey

Curious as to peoples thoughts on a couple of options I am tossing up between.

Something like this colonial one in the middle
Or perhaps same colour with more texture like this one grant posted

or a traditional drum pot like this which is the safe bet.

I like all but the first and last pot! That's my taste, sorry.
Can you put up a pic of your tree? It would make it easier.
Cheers

Out of those, I think Pat's colonial pot is the pick for me. The shallow sides on the textured one in the middle makes that pot feel a bit 'light' and unstable for your tree, the drum pot would be ok but I'm not sure about the color?

The actor Wesley Snipes said it best...
'Always bet on Pat'.... slightly misquoted

Hi Luke
In your PM's you describe your tree as being styled as a literati. That being the case, I don't think an oval pot would be the best choice.
Have a look at the following pots. They are all round and can be made in any glaze/shape combination, however you can't have these as they are all sold.
Cheers,
Pat

Thanks Pat, I particularly love the last two but I am leaning more towards the darker. The texture is what appeals on the second to last one. It is hard to tell in the photo but does the darker one have the same kind of texture?
I didn't realise the pots you had PM'd me about were not round, but yes I am after a round drum pot much like the last two as mentioned above. I have tried calling you Pat but got your voicemail.
The tree that I am looking to pot up (next year) is in this progression thread here
viewtopic.php?f=131&t=15814 It still has a way to go, but I want to spend the time finding the right pot from the beginning.

I am still on the hunt for a large drum pot for my pine.
If anyone has one they are willing to part with, or knows of someone with good quality large drum pots please PM me.
Thanks in advance

A photo of the tree would help with making recommendations

Hi Adam,
I am not so much after recommendations but I am looking for a large (35-40cm diameter) drum pot.
Anyway here is the tree -

Hi Luke,
I personally don't have one that size. Here is a site
http://www.orientbonsai.com.au/pots.html they are in Melbourne.
I get some of my pots from them. Phone no. (03) 9469 5026. You can try the webb site They have the size you are looking for. Not sure if they will post it to you. If not, let me know I would be happy to get one for you and pot it to you.
Cheers
Kirky
