Not likely to be an Apricot
Apricot leaves are generally softer in appearance and more spade shaped without serration on the margins. Also Apricot flowers are larger with a glow of pink to them and the petals are more full and rounded.
Flowering Plum is a great name for it, it is flowering and may well be a plum. I have a similar one which I took as sucker/root cutting from my Grandmothers house, the roots had grown 30 metres or so and popped up on her side, I grabbed it for nostalgia and due to its ability to survive with little water.
Is this tree in a yard or in a pot?
It is a little hard to tell as there are alot of varieties out there so at present it is Prunus sp.
You may want to post another pic in a month or two if you have no positive ID.

thats the problem with the flowering species sometimes hard to identify. The flowers look a little to large for a plum, Miyagiman would know. I have a almond and the flowers look the same as that . just that little bit larger. It took me ages to find someone who knew but as soon as they saw it they knew. We probably have someone out there like that.
