Cedar restyle

Hello all,
Here is another tree I picked up. I picked it up at the same time as the
Juniper Procumbens I have a thread on.
SBT001 - Deodora - Original.jpg
The branches were again a bit long and too thick at the top of the tree. I really liked the very straight trunk and could see quite a nice little shohin in there.
I reduced the foliage in 2014 and started the shari on the trunk. I did it in autumn and it still bled like a stuck pig. The bottom branch that I used split when I bent it so I stopped work on it for the year and let the split heal.
I let it recover and this year I have removed the unwanted foliage and done more carving.

I would like the branch a little closer to the trunk and it had been wired in but has sprung back out. Let me know what you think, should it be closer?
Constructive comments always welcome.

Great outcome there mate!!
I agree the branch should be closer, or at least on a slightly more downward angle?
I would also suggest a much shallower pot when you get around to re-potting it. Maybe rectangular? I am no expert by any means, but that would suit my tastes.

Thanks Luke,
It will be destined for a shallower pot, I just didn't want to remove too much root mass in one go.

Sean, can you post another pic taken from closer to soil level?

possibly a little trunk movement near the first jin and a small planting angle change at repot

It may work with the trunk at a 45degree angle. Rather than straight up and down. Nice work

Hi Sean,
I love the trunkline with the shari.
I think if you keep bending the branch down further it may be too tight of an angle?
What if you were able to just bend the end of the branch so it's sweeping across toward the trunkline, adding some more movement to it in the process?
Cheers,
Pearcy.

Nice effort with a nice future
I note the first phot has nice bend in the lower trunk, but cannot see that ion the last one?
I assume it been rotated to the right a little and has lost that movement?
Can you rotate it slightly to get that bend back?
that will bring the branch back around the front and wil also effectively move it closer to the trunk from that angle.

Yes, that's probably a good idea.

Yeah, a bit more movement in the branch and a foliage pad or two in front of the trunk. I would keep the dead vertical planting angle, i like the story your telling of an ancient formal upright tree that has had a catastrophe, but is still hanging in there!

I figured out what's bugging me Jase. It's the horizontal Jin. It acts as a visual full stop as the eye moves up the trunk. It's at the wrong angle I think. It does not tie in with the cascade branch. Just a thought.
