Said by a melbournite who knows no better
If you believe hiding inside from the rain is living then, unfortunately the PR people have brainwashed you into believing that
Been such nice weather here, riding a motorbike on the crap days is awesome

27mm? That's a bit of drizzle around these parts. Heavy rain here has been up to 100mm in an hour.
Not that we've had much rain lately but when we get in 25mm and hour can be pretty normal.

Maybe a little exegeration! But 25mm in a day isn't that big here. We had a rain event of more than 25mm a day for a couple of days followed on the third by 350mm which included over 100mm in an hour. Apparently it is not possible to rain any heavier.

Weird thing is, after all that rain a few of my maples/elms started growing... during a cold snap with no sun smack bang in the middle of winter.

Same here, 2 elms have kicked off and are almost fully bright green, crabapple has started spot flowering

... mean while some tridents are still hanging on to last year's leaves

Ash still has some of last seasons leaves.
Japanese Maple group is budding.
Big Zelkova has 6ish of last season leaves (bright yellow) and a dozen new leaves just popped.
Old Elm usually only drops a 1/5 of leaves has popped new ones everywhere.
My ever flowering Azalea has plenty of new flowers which are water logged and will need to be be pinched on the weekend.
Another Elm has popped leaves.
My Magnolia in the front yard is in full bloom, 6 weeks early.
What the hell is going on?
